Arrival & Departure

For safety and security reasons, and in accordance with regulations, ALL children must be signed in on arrival, and signed out on departure with all times being noted.

Signatures and times are important for safety of children and are a requirement for the purpose of subsidies and taxes. Parents are advised that if signatures or times are not recorded this may have an impact on your tax returns at the end of the financial year.

Parents are asked to complete a section in our enrolment form stating the names of relatives and friends authorised to collect your child from the centre. NO child will be allowed to leave our centre with a person who is not stated on the enrolment form, unless prior arrangements are made with the Director or Nominated Supervisor.

Health & Medication

Step Ahead Kids has a health policy regarding illnesses and medications which is fundamental for parents to accept as part of enrolment.  All medication is to be given directly to a member of staff and the centre medication forms are to be completed authorising  staff to administer medication at the required times.

Children with contagious illnesses are required to be kept at home and a doctor’s certificate must be presented to show that the infection cannot be passed on when your child returns to the centre.  We follow safe practice with COVID 19 and in times of outbreak we have very strict hygiene practices in place and apply a 48 hour exclusion period during COVID outbreaks and Red Zoned areas within Thirlmere vicinity.

Please do not bring your child to the centre if they display any of the following symptoms:

  • temperature
  • cough
  • runny nose

Outside of COVID 19 if your child is unwell and displays any of the following symptoms please keep them home until they are well enough to return with a doctors clearance.

  • yellow or mucus runny nose (a clear runny nose is acceptable)
  • high temporature
  • diarrhoea or vomiting
  • red, swollen or discharging eyes
  • rashes (other than nappy or heat rash)

Foods from a variety of cultures are offered and special diets are catered for.  We have a qualified cook on premises and all meals are planned to give at least 50% of the children’s daily requirements. We provide a seasonal menu over a 4 week period this is displayed in the middle room on the notice board.

Rest & Sleep

We implement safe sleeping practices for all children in care, with staff required to follow safe sleeping recommendations as set down by SIDS & Kids.  Stretcher beds are provided for the children and we aim to make rest time a relaxed, pleasant time for all children.

At Step Ahead Kids, we recognise the importance of ongoing communication with parents and in providing updates on how your child has spent their day while under our care and we welcome any feedback you may have.

Daily Information

We understand the importance of communication and we welcome opportunities for you to talk to your child’s educators each day to get an overview of your child’s activities, sleeping and eating patterns. In addition, we will provide parents with a Daily Register including your child’s rest times and meals. This can be found in the arrival and departure books for individual room.  We display our daily activity photos on digital display in the middle room.

Step Ahead Kids produces a monthly newsletter with updates on the rooms within our centre, upcoming events, policy reviews, and parent information.   Our part in sustainability and  caring for our environment, our newsletters are sent out to parents electronically but we will have a minimal number printed and available at the Centre for parents who prefer a hard copy.
